Recently I had been feeling a little more tired, my legs were hurting me when I did any exercises on the treadmill, or eliptical and I was getting dizzy in the morning.
The doctor took some blood tests and we found out that I was extremely low in vitamin D. I knew all about vitamin D or at least I thought I did. It turns out that if you are deficient in vitamin D you run the risk of developing breast cancer, diabetes, other various types of cancer, high blood pressure, having chronic pain, developing heart disease, be at risk for having a heart attack, having the risk for developing MS,osteoarthritis and other debilitating illnesses.
I eat good, healthy food, take supplements, eat fish, protein, whole leafy greens, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc. so I was amazed that my vitamin D was so low. The only way you know if your vitamin D is low is to have a blood test done in a lab. The optimum levels should be 50ng/ml anything below 25ng/ml is not good and you need to check into supplementing with vitamin D3 with the advise of your physician. You should not try to just do this on your own you need to be monitored by your physician. It is also a good idea to get some sunshine in your daily routine early morning is a good time to take a walk, sit and read a good book, or just sit and sip on your morning beverage.
So the next time you visit your doctor, ask him/her if you can get tested to check your vitamin D levels.
If you have adequate amounts of vitamin D in your body is elevates mood, has anti-inflammatory benefits, increases mineral density, and reduces blood pressure.
A healthy diet of dark green leafy vegetables, fresh vegetables, whole grains, getting in some exercise a couple times a week, drinking good clean water each day, thinking positive thoughts, journaling and getting some sunshine at least 15 minutes each day will also help with having a healthier body, mind and spirit.
